Contact lenses carry many benefits

Correct your vision

Perfectly healthy to wear

Unnoticeable

Lightweight, therefore excellent for all sports, where normal spectacle frames may be cumbersome and impractical. Sports spectacles can be administered which are perfect for a number of activities, but in sports such as rugby and football it is intangible to wear anything but contact lenses.

Susan R. Bowers currently stocks 3 types of contact lens:

1. Silicone Hydrogel

  • Comfortable
  • Improved oxygen transfer
  • Overnight wear
  • Continuous wear for up to a month
  • Regular checks essential

2. Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP)

Permanent wear, up to 15hrs a day

  • Hard
  • Durable
  • Allow greater oxygen transfer
  • Require regular wear
  • Require daily cleaning
  • More effective vision correction for certain eyes (astigmatism and keratoconus)

3. Daily Disposable Soft Lenses   Sold in packs of 30, 60 or 90

  • More comfortable
  • Worn for a day then thrown away
  • No need for cleaning
  • Ideal for sports use

Contact lenses have seen an incredible advancement Since the hard ‘micro’ lenses that were fitted in the late 1940’s. The 1960’s saw the advent of ‘soft’ contact lenses, which were designed to be more comfortable than hard. However, compared to hard lenses the soft type have a poor oxygen transfer and carry over ten times the risk of infection. The most recent advancement is that of the silicone hydrogel lens which allows far more oxygen to penetrate its surface than a normal soft lens, thus allowing for overnight wear.
