Adventure Sports (such as skiing and mountaineering)

a durable frame or goggle complete with high intensity UV shielding lenses is necessary to protect your eyes from the Sun's harmful ultra-violet radiation. Prescription or non-prescription and a vast choice of lenses for varying light-intensities and atmospheric/weather conditions are again available.

Cycling

streamlined sports eye protection is available in prescription, non-prescription, light shielding or light enhancing forms, or a combination of the above to ensure that your eyes are protected from foreign bodies and harsh sunlight and to improve your vision and overall performance.

Cricket

lightweight titanium frames (extremely durable) and polycarbonate lenses (shatterproof) glazed with an anti-reflection coating (to reduce glare and dazzle) are the spectacle of choice with our cricketing patients. A current working example of this is the Nike designed Flexon by Marchon titanium frame, made complete with polycarbonate and anti-reflection coating lenses from Pentax or Nikon.

For outdoor use photochromic lenses such as the latest Transitions 3 lens (which darkens with increased exposure to sunlight) can be recommended, as can our range of sports wrap-arounds provided by adidas and Nike. Certain sports frames have interchangeable lenses designed for specific light-conditions, such as the adidas Gazelle frame which can be fitted with light-enhancing lenses that maximise your ability to see in dull conditions.

Clay Pigeon shooting

requires spectacles to have a high fitting and offer a very wide field of view. They may also be equipped with orange tinted lenses for high contrast.

Shooting

Knoblock single or double lens shooting frames are available in your prescription.

Usually a patient will request a single lens for their 'shooting eye' and possibly an eye patch to cover the other (if they require assistance with keeping the other eye from interfering).

Other special features can include irises to improve depth perception, opaque side-shields to block out the surroundings and a number of different coloured filters to attach depending on the light conditions

Snooker

specialist frames with oversized lenses are available to ensure you don't peer over the rim and hence lose vision when looking along the cue. Again it is recommended that an anti-reflection coating is administered to numb the glare or dazzling effects of above-table lighting

Squash/Tennis/Badminton

virtually indestructible nylon spectacles engineered to your prescription are available to protect your eyes from ball or foreign-body damage that could be sustained whilst playing these racquet sports. The frames are held comfortably and securely in position by an adjustable head band and soft silicone nose bridge.

Water Sports

this includes swimming goggles and diving masks, which can be made to your individual prescription.
